New iPhone 4 to be Released End of June

On Monday, June 7th, Apple CEO Steve Jobs presented the newest version of the iPhone.  The new iPhone 4 will be released to the public on June 24 and Jobs feels “…it’s the biggest leap we’ve taken since the original iPhone.”

There will be a black and a white version, as well as either a 16GB or 32GB version starting at $199, and going up to $299.

It’s 24% thinner than the iPhone 3GS with a glass back and metal siding and is only 9.3mm thick.  Jobs exclaimed that it will be “the thinnest smart phone on the planet.”

It will have a front facing camera for video conferencing and another camera on the back will have an LED flash.  Both sides are 5 mega pixel cameras with a backside-illuminated sensor and they will also have a 5x digital zoom.

Video conferencing is a new option that many phone companies are using, but the new iPhone 4 will only work in places with a Wi-Fi connection. Many people in Europe who have had the option of video calls since 2005 have claimed it to be a useless feature.  However, at certain times, face-to-face interaction is much more meaningful and is definitely a step up from the rest.

Jobs expressed deep satisfaction for the new version of the iPhone on Monday, claiming, “This is our new baby.”

According to CNN.com, because of botched Wi-Fi coverage, there were many interruptions of the presentation and Jobs even asked the audience to turn off their Wi-Fi based stations or he wouldn’t continue with the other demos of the phone.  The question that comes to mind: will it be useful often enough, and if so, will the first iPhone 4’s have too many glitches, making the entire device useless until it is revised?

The new operation system Jobs calls “iOS” will allow multitasking like listening to a radio stream while surfing the web, and will be available for free on June 21.  It will also be compatible with the 3GS but older models won’t be able to upgrade.  Additional search engines like Bing and Yahoo are another new feature with the new operating system.

The new movie app will allow video editing, sharing, and shooting from the phone and will cost $4.99.  They have also added a six-axis gyroscope that is sensitive to gravity and will be useful for new gaming apps.

Longer battery life allows 7 hours of talk time and ten hours of web browsing on Wi-Fi.

Not to mention the HUGE array of new apps including a Farmville app and a Netflix app that will allow you to download and watch movies on your phone while on the go.
With all of the hype that comes with the new iPhone, it’s definitely apparent that the technology for the newest in smart phone technology is revolutionary.  HTC, Google, Motorola, as well as Blackberry all have similar features in their newest models and will prove to be decent competitors with Apple according to CNN and many others.  With the newest in technology getting more and more advanced, new smart phones are now almost equivalent to fictional devices found in old episodes of The Jetsons with most consumers being more than willing to embrace the latest and greatest in the industry.
