The Next Revolution in Music: MyStudio

Audio and video recording technology has developed along with the industries they serve, getting more complex and interesting with more complicated songs and films. Now, you can visit a local shop and acquire any necessary equipment you would need to film, record, and edit your own audio and video…

 …If you have the cash.

The problem with advanced recording equipment, as far as the personal user goes, is cost. It’s true that recording technology has come to the point where home studios are feasible, but the prices assigned to that technology are generally high relative to the average musician’s income.

Increased computer usage has turned the internet into a 24-hour audition. Anyone skilled in filmmaking, stand-up comedy, or even juggling can showcase their skills to the world for free. The opportunities presented by this change, however, seem to help one group of artists more than the rest: musicians.

The internet has turned millions of music enthusiasts into recording artists, usually armed with only laptops, web cams, and maybe cheap microphones. The result of this formula is a bombardment of badly recorded, so-so music from every walk of life. Without the money to afford expensive, high-quality audio recording equipment, people who have created relevant, truly unique music don’t have the ability to compete with those less talented but armed with nice technology.

Now, Studio 1 Media and their brainchild MyStudio are leveling the playing field. The company based out of Scottsdale, Arizona, is bringing access to high-end audio and video recording technology directly to shopping malls around the country.

The MyStudio kiosk is a state-of-the-art recording studio encompassing all the elements you need to create a high-quality video of your talents. For only $20, you can record up to five minutes of studio-quality audio and high-definition, broadcast quality video. Once you have finished your clip, it is immediately uploaded to www.MyStudio.net. If you need to make a demo tape but don’t have the money to invest in equipment, you are part of the demographic this technology was made for.

Inside MyStudio, you can use the advanced features to create your own unique look for your video. A proprietary green screen is used along with over 1,000 backgrounds to choose from, so you can place your demo in the perfect setting. You can even upload your own background from home. The LED RGB lighting system will adjust itself to match the background you have chosen; the mood will be just right. Check out some videos people have created at www.MyStudio.net.

MyStudio is the perfect resource for any musician who is working to create a legitimate demo. Inside MyStudio, you can hook up your own musical instruments and even upload your own music to record with. If you are simply wanting to showcase your amazing vocal talents, you can choose from thousands of songs released from EMI Music Publishing. Once your video is uploaded, you can acquire an MP3 of the audio and even order a free DVD of your performance.

MyStudio.net is not your average company website, either. Much like Facebook or MySpace, the website features social networking tools that allow users to share their MyStudio videos, create personal profiles, and interact on many different levels.

Studio 1 Media currently offers their MyStudio technology in three locations: Hollywood, CA, Nashville, TN, and Tempe, AZ. They are currently planning to open their fourth location in Miami within the next month and hope to have MyStudios running in six major U.S. cities by mid-year 2010.

This technology will play catalyst to a rise in the quality of music the industry has to choose from. Artists that otherwise had no means of proving their talents can now do so for the cost of a nice dinner. By offering the public access to advanced recording technology, Studio 1 Media and MyStudio might be creating the next big step in how we discover musicians.

It’s amazing how people across the planet play music based video games now, not to mention the fact that a ten year old in Japan can guitar battle a 55 year old in San Francisco.

I honestly hope MyStudio is successful in its current locations and spreads as planned. The resources it provides for musicians who are struggling would really expand the music we are discovering.

Geez, I finally learn how to work Itunes and now this! I will have to foward this over to my friend who was on American Idol….maybe he will become the next home name:) I would think that this is pretty expensive to maintain, so maybe if enough people put their $20 in there will be more in the future! I will wait to try one until I can play at least hard on Guitar Hero or Rock Band!

You are right…at this point, there are only a few scattered around the United States.

If this company can get them spread around the country more consistently, they could really get a lot of people involved. Like you said, with names like American Idol they can bring in a lot of musicians that might have never broken out of their shells.

I think they have one of those at the Scottsdale Fashion Square mall. I have heard that little boys have been trying out for a new “boy band” reality show put on by the makers of american idol, or maybe it was the makers of ‘n sync or something. I guess it is a good way to see alot of talent spanning the whole country, Except, I’m pretty sure there are only like 2 of these kiosks that exist- kind of lacking.
