You make a great point by noting where the letters were coming from the corresponding opinions.

It's a delicate situation but people around the country should realize that this is not a move against immigration, but illegal immigration. The people who support the new legislation also support the legal immigrants who have worked hard to create successful lives for themselves in the U.S.

As I resident of Arizona, I support the new immigration law. This law would not be necessary if the federal government did their job in protecting our borders. But they have let us down time and time again. Finally, Gov. Brewer has done something to protect our rights - the citizens of Arizona.

But the outcry against this law from other parts of the country is just their ignorance of what the border states have been going through. Their inflamatory remarks comparing AZ to Alabama in the 1960's is ridiculous. Of course, there are many good Mexican families here, but we also have the extremely violent Mexican drug cartels and human smugglers getting into our state and threatening our safety.

In the letters to the editor today in the AZ. Republic, its interesting to note where the writer lives. One letter writer will not vacation in Az. this year because of the law - he lives in Iowa. The two letter writers that applaud the law are from border states - Calif and Texas. They understand what we are dealing with. Nobody wants racial profiling and this law does not mean we're racist. It is a law to PROTECT AZ. CITIZENS. If anything, at least it is waking up Washington and the rest of the country on the need to pass immigration reform and border control!
